Outline of Work Performed: During an inspection the South Carolina DOT found cracks in the support columns of the I-385 exit ramp at the very busy I-85 intersection. The ramp was temporarily closed while their assessment was finished. After considering and evaluating both traditional cementitious repair methods verses carbon fiber wrap jackets, SCDOT chose to go with the installation of the carbon fiber jacket as the more cost effective solution. The jacket system had shown the required strength characteristics along with very quick turn-around times. After successfully performing repairs to the first column, the remaining 8 columns were awarded.
Results: All column repairs were completed on time and to the satisfaction of the SCDOT.
